No, not the semi-edible meat in a can. The avalanche of general crap we are assaulted with on the internets.

A few stats from the official WordPress blog:

• 1.7 million posts and 687 thousand new pages.
• 2.5 million comments.
• 28.2 million spam comments blocked.

That’s just for the month of June. So out of 2.5 million valid comments, there were 28.2 million spam comments. Where would we be without spam blockers? Thanks to them I almost never get spam mail in my inbox, I never have spam posted in the comments on my blog and I never have to look at those irritating pop-up ads.

The numbers are just astounding. I’d be curious to look at the financials of some of these companies that think spamming is a good idea. They are probably making money, but I’m sure they aren’t making many happy customers.
