And I do this why?

Here is a great list of things to consider for “small bloggers.”

It hits on one of the things I’ve always asked other bloggers who didn’t have huge amounts of traffic. Why are you blogging? Is it to become rich and famous (you should probably find something else) or is it for some other reason.

I spend a lot of time here, writing and commenting. I do it because I love it. I do it because I want to look back years from now and see what I was thinking today. I do it because I want my kids to look back on this when they are dads and see what I was thinking. I do it because I love writing and I hope writing this much will eventually make me better at it.

Now don’t get me wrong. I get a regular hit of my drug of choice (my blog stats) but at the end of the day it’s not the reason why I do it. If other people are interested in things I write then I think that’s great (and a little goofy). If you’re in it to get a big following the problem is unless you are famous it takes a long time to build an audience. It takes consistency. You have to keep up with it. I know so many people who start blogs with the best of intentions. A month later it’s as abandoned as a mall parking lot on Christmas Day. It’s not “hard” work but it can be time consuming. I write this for me and people that love me. That’s all that really matters.

(We’ll see how this holds up next time I have a record day and go skipping out of my office singing the blog song to my wife’s rolling eyes.)

(Note to self: Write a blog song. That would be funny)

Why do you blog?
